[edit] Listing Guidelines
Welcome to Open Source Providers! We hope you'll find this site to be a valuable addition to your marketing efforts. To get the most out of this site, we recommend following these steps:
- Get an account.
- Once you've received your username and password, create a new page with the name of your business. To do this, type your business name in the search box and click "Go." As long as no other business has the same name, and there isn't already a page in the system with the same name, you should be able to start entering your company information.
- On your page, be sure to enter the following headings and information:
- Specific categories of business (use [[Category:Consulting]] format to list as many services as you offer).
- Summary of your business
- Partial Client List
- Business Location(s) -- City, region, state, and/or country.
- Specific software you provide service for.
- Go to each of the pages for your business locations and add a link back to your page. Lacking any fair way of listing businesses, add your business to the list in alphabetical order. (Suggestions for a more fair order are welcome!)
- Go to each of the pages for the specific software you use and add a link back to your page. Lacking any fair way of listing businesses, add your business to the list in alphabetical order. (Suggestions for a more fair order are welcome!)
- If there isn't a page for your business location or specific software, first search for related items. If there really isn't a page, create a new one.
- Create a link from your user page to your business page (optional). Hint: Use a #REDIRECT tag on the first line to make this automatic (see Help:Editing for details).
[edit] To add a page to a category
I would like to add new categories (e.g. Bangor and North Wales) to the "location" page, and new software (such as qmail) to categories such as "Email", however I cannot find a way to do this. The edit link at the top only allows me to edit the text at the top of the page. Any help would be appreciated.
Use a Category link. First, create the pages for Bangor and North Wales. At the top of the description, add:
[[Category:Location]]
This will make the page get listed on the Location category page automatically.
[edit] To add your listing to a location or software page
How do I get my business to show up in location seattle?
To get your business to show up on the various location and specific software pages, just go to the page you want to appear on, edit the page, and add the link to the list!
The rule, for lack of a better one, is to put your business in the list in alphabetical order. Don't mess with other people's listings.
Not very automatic, but it's easy anyway.
[edit] What happened to the Summary?
I also do not get the summary to show up when I edit it.
The summary is just a summary of changes you made to the page. It shows up when you click the "History" tab of the page, or follow the "Recent Changes" link.
